About the Business
My working life started in the early 80's, a career which today I regret entering, purely on the bases of the enjoyment and creativity that silversmithing and silver antiques gives me. Although the characteristics in respect to design had some similarities, my industrial career was governed by ludicrous regulations and a working environment that I found irritating and exasperating.
The day to day hours of work became a chore and a means to an end, as I'm sure many others feel about their workplace. Financially stable I decided to take a turn at my personal crossroad, with a subsequent period of study time and inactivity I began my later life as a Silversmith and Silver Antique Dealer. We all look back and wish we had taken a different turn in life, as for my experiences I applaud the change and have no regrets.
It wasn't just a case of learning a few simple facts about silver; so far it's been a long journey to collect such a mass of information: many reading books, bad purchases and frustrations in creating. During my time of study not only did I learn how things were made but the history of what had been made, you can only admire the purity of the skill that these silversmith had and the techniques that they had acquired. I was able to create pieces alongside my education which added a fascination and great deal of passion to what I already adored.
By buying, creating and selling I see every part of the silver industry & understand what makes a brilliant piece, in some ways it has been like starting at the bottom of a company ladder and working my way up to the top, appreciating what each part of the jigsaw does for the business to work.
We have found our vocation and have since set up a workshop in the historic town of Lincoln were we now live. We are positioned under the towering form of Lincoln Cathedral, it brings me inspiration to be where we are. It is only a few footsteps to my workshop, the place where I can fully immerse myself in designing a piece of silver influenced by the famous Silversmiths I've learnt so much about.
